Lorna Roberts (1942-2001) was an artist and medicine woman who created large vibrant works of art using oil on canvas in New York City’s Greenwich Village during the 1980s. She earned a living by leading people on spiritual medicine journeys to Peru within the Incan shamanic tradition. She also had a private healing practice using mediums such as sound, fire, music and touch for personal healing and transformation. Lorna’s paintings map the patterns of spiritual consciousness and explore themes of mythology and transcendence. Her art divulges the findings of her inner medicine journeys, such as intricate repeating patterns, archetypal shapes and delicate color work.
Her daughter, Aris Roberts-Kelly, a resident of East Austin, has carefully stored and kept these large dynamic paintings in her care for decades, and this is the first exhibition for Lorna Roberts since her death.
